The best natural vitamin e:tocotrienols

August 07, 2023

The data released by Nielson showed that more than half of Chinese consumers are more willing to choose natural and organic high -quality products. With the continuous improvement of consumers 'pursuit of high quality, the ingredients of natural sources are more likely to capture consumers' hearts. Studies have pointed out that vitamin E containing α, β, γ, and Δ vitamin E performed better than α-nichenols in animal function tests. And in recent years, research has found that in some cases, the tocotrienols has better functions than d-α tocopherol, such as antioxidant and lower the cholesterol.

Therefore, the application of mixed tocopherols in new products is also increasing.

The discovery of tocotrienols is nearly 40 years later than tocopherols, it was not discovered until 1960. Nowdays, the development of tocopherolsl is in full swing, and all sectors of the society had low attention to the tocotrienols. In addition, the distribution of tocotrienols is more limited,it only exists in a few oil products such as wheat germ oil, rice bran oil, corn oil, soybean oil, and palm oil. The content has reached 900mg/kg.

Research has shown that due to the presence of unsaturated side chains in tocotrienol, it can more effectively penetrate tissues containing saturated fatty acid layers and better distribute within the lipid layer of cell membranes, thus playing a good role in antioxidant and free radical scavenging. And it has significant advantages in inhibiting cholesterol, joint support, and cardiovascular health issues, it has a high potential function in raw material industries such as food and medicine.

Tocotrienols

According to current research, in addition to the antioxidant effect of vitamin E, the potential applications of tocotrienol mainly focus on the following:
1. Reduce cholesterol. Modern medicine has shown that excessive sterols are one of the pathogenic factors of cardiovascular diseases, especially high-level-low-density lipoprotein, which is an important pathogenic factor and the main carrier for transporting cholesterol to extrahepatic tissues. In the human liver experiment, tocotrienol inhibits the activity of HMG CoA reductase (hydroxymethylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase) that catalyzes cholesterol biosynthesis in the liver through the post transcriptional regulation mechanism, thus effectively reducing the content of LDL cholesterol and total cholesterol in serum, and the synthesis of total cholesterol is reduced by 32%. However, tocopherol does not have enzyme inhibitory activity.
2. Promote neural development. Experiments using gene chip technology to study the effects of vitamin E on the development of fetal brain in rats have shown that the level of α-tocopherol - is approximately half that of its mother, while in the group with added tocotrienols, In the addition of tocotrienols, the level of alpha-tocotrienols in the fetal brain is significantly higher than that of her mother, indicating that the tocotrienols is more likely to break through the blood brain barrier. In addition, alpha-tocotrienols can also inhibit signal transition reactions that cause the body's neur variability by glutamate, and this is also a function that tocopherol don't have.

3. Promote joint health. Generally speaking, vitamin D is closely related to bones and joints, and recent studies have shown that vitamin E also plays an important role in bone health. A controlled clinical trial published in the journal Nutrition followed up 87 postmenopausal women (average age 60 years) with bone density below average for 12 weeks. The results showed that the supplementation of tocotrienol increased bone turnover rate, making it a safe and effective new choice for bone health.

3. Promote joint health. Generally speaking, vitamin D is closely related to bones and joints, and recent studies have shown that vitamin E also plays an important role in bone health. A randomized double-blind placebo-controlled clinical trial published in the journal Nutrition followed up 87 postmenopausal women (average age 60 years) with bone density below average for 12 weeks. The results showed that the supplementation of tocotrienol increased bone turnover rate, making it a safe and effective new choice for bone health.

In vitro experiments, the antioxidant capacity of tocotrienols is 50 times that of tocopherol, its excellent antioxidant performance can better help food processing.
